My Sister

Well another weekend has come and gone...a bit too quick I might add. Time to get back to the real world. I managed to squeak out another layout this weekend. These are a few photos of my sister and I in 2007, who is 3 years younger than me. We have had our shares of ups and downs but there is no one that I would rather have as a sister and friend.

When I started this layout I had already picked my cardstock colors but that was about it. I thought I needed to add some patterned paper so I incorporated the brown flowered paper. That is actually Stampin' Up's designer series paper in Chocolate Chip. I thought the "chocolate" color of the flowers would tie in nicely with the layout...then again maybe it was the fact that they named it Chocolate Chip and anything with Chocolate is good for me!

Here is a close up of some of the stickers. I just love the verses! The one that cracked me up was "It's an open door policy when using the restroom"! That was so us growing up with one bathroom!





I purchased the stickers (7 Gypsies brand) from Hobby Lobby. I couldn't believe it when I found them because the colors matched my cardstock perfectly...how often does that happen? Here is what they look like. This line is great because they have all kinds of themes...grandparents, family, sports, holidays...the possibilities are endless!
I just finished reading a great book and wanted to share this quote with you. It's one of my favorites, so here is a thought for the week:
"Smile, say less and listen more, pray, and trust in your Heavenly Father"

Girlfriend Time

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having an excellent weekend so far. I have been doing some spring cleaning. There is so much to do but at least I have been able to do some of it outside and enjoy this weather we are having.

This layout is of a lunch that a few girlfriends of mine did back in 2007. We like to get together for lunch to celebrate each other's birthday's but we are always so rushed and we thought we needed to use one of those national holidays that us bankers get off to have a girls lunch. What a great idea! Mexican food and good friends...what can be better?

The base paper is an olive color that I picked up on one of the sale tables at Get Scrappy. The distressed yellow paper is from Basic Grey but I am not sure of the name of that one but I know that it was new a few years ago. See the corners? I used a corner rounder to give it a different look.

Here is a close up of the rub on. Stampin Up came out with rub ons last year and I just love them. The come off onto your project so easily. I was going for a simple yet elegant look for this layout and this rub on gave me just the right effect.

This verse is actually an eyelet...well I should say you punch a hole and on the back of the metal square is the stick part of the eyelet so you push it through the hole and then flip your paper over and set the eyelet with your eyelet tool. Pretty nifty huh? I picked these up at Michael's. The three little flowers are another rub on from SU.

Red & Black

How are you doing on this fine Friday afternoon? Well, this is the end of spring break I am sad to see it go. Quite honestly I could really get used to this stay at home mom gig! But unfortunately I wouldn't be able to afford it! But, needless to say I have enjoyed spending time with my girls!

Here is another layout that I completed at Get Scrappy. Haley got into baking a few years ago and she is pretty good. We were getting ready to go to a family get together and she thought it would be nice to make some chocolate chip cookies for all the cousins. I was amazed at how she not only made the cookies all by herself but that she arranged them on the plate so nice! Now, on to the details of the layout...I got the idea from a magazine. The punched out heart paper is Bazzill cardstock that is actually meant for you to sew with. But I thought it would look great with the black cardstock behind it to bring out the hearts. I had the photo enlarged to a 5x7 as I wanted it as the only photo on the page. The black and white patterned paper is from Doodle Bug and ric rac is made of felt and it is from Creative Cafe. I didn't plan it but I love the way that the ric rac turned out because it looks like a stem to the flower!



Here is a close up of the flowers. The red and white flowers are from Making Memories and the black flowers underneath are Bazzill. Nikki had a great idea to spray the black flowers with
Pearl Glimmer Mist to give them a nice sheen so they would stand out just a bit.

Our Crew

Happy Spring Everyone! I am on vacation this week with my kids and I just can't get over this beautiful weather we are having here. I usually take spring break off every year and most of the time it is either blustery and cold or snowing so this is so nice!

Here is a page that I completed this weekend at the Get Scrappy crop. This was back in 2007 when our son came home to visit and we took this opportunity to get some shots of the kids together. The patterned paper is from Basic Grey and I can't remember the name of this particular line but it is a few years old.

I have to confess. I participated in the silent auction at Get Scrappy and was a serious bidder on these fun little bottles of Glimmer Mist. These are new to my world of scrapbooking and may just in fact become a staple in my scrapbook room. I will admit that when they first came out I really didn't get what the big buzz was all about but I have seen some really neat things done with them. For instance, see my title up there at the top of the page? They are chipboard letters and I used Candy Apple Glimmer Mist on them to make them that nifty shade of red that matches my layout colors oh so well! Then of coarse I had to bling them up a little bit and add some jewels to the letters. In case you want to check out this line of Glimmer Mist for yourself head on over to Scrapfunattic in Andover they carry a wide variety of colors and they are so friendly and helpful there!



The scalloped border on the sides was created using one of my favorite new punches from Fiskars...Threading Water. I picked this little who-haw up at Hobby Lobby on one of their oh so fantastic 50% off sales. Check them out cuz they have a lot of new things coming in each month. I was shocked at what they are carrying now!

Get Scrappy 4

I kicked off spring break week by attending Get Scrappy 4 on Friday and Saturday this past weekend. Wondering what Get Scrappy is? Well one of my dear friends, Mary and a friend of hers, Linda, put on a scrapbook fundraiser every year to benefit the YWCA. These amazing women work so hard all year long to put on a great time and raise money for the YWCA which helps women affected by domestic violence. This is my second year to attend and this year I took my daughter Haley for a little mom and me time! I think she really had a good time. She completed 4 pages and submitted a few of them in the page contest. There were several ladies there that I used to work with from Scrapbook Garden East (which has since closed) and it was so good to see them and spend some time together again!

Easter Blessings

Hi friends! Hope you are having a great weekend. We have been busy this weekend hosting family from out of town and you know sometimes life just gets busy. Here is a page layout that I managed to put together this week This is Easter 2007 and I got the layout idea from one of the Becky Higgins sketch books. The cardstock is Bazzil and the patterned paper is Doodle Bug.

Here is a close up of the 3-D sticker embelly's. These are from Jolees I just thought I would group a few of them together down by my journaling and then again up top by my title.

Here is a close up of the title. The word Easter is cut using the Cricut machine and the Alphalicious cartridge. I used a few of the sticker embelly's to enhance the title here too.

Here is a picture of my Cricut machine (with the Alphalicious cartridge). It is the smaller machine but I really do like it. I have had the opportunity to use the Cricut Expressions (the 12x12 machine) and it really nice but at the time when I bought my machine I didn't want to spend $300, which is how much the Expressions was selling for. Now though I think you can pick it up for around $200. If you are interested in the Cricut machine I would definitely invest in the Expressions versus the smaller one.

Hey...can you keep a secret? Yesterday I was flipping channels and ran across HSN and they were showing a camera . A Fuji, which I have heard from a photographer I knew that came into a retail scrapbook store I used to work at, that Fugi is one of the best cameras in his opinion. So anyway, I kept watching all the details of the sale, it is a 10 mega pixel, 15x optical zoom. They showed some shots that you can take with this camera and it was simply amazing. One of the challenges that I have is getting good shots from a distance away. Like for example at the kids programs. And this camera was such a good deal...so, I BOUGHT IT...but SHHHH don't tell my hubby. I have been very good lately and have not been spending on frivolous things so this was my little splurge for myself. I should have it by spring break. Perfect timing! Here's a picture of the little guy. I can't wait to use it!

Any Day Card

Hi friends! Hope you had a great weekend. Today we went to the girls school as they had a German Supper. This is the only fundraiser that they have and it was a huge success! We had authentic German food. Each family signed up to work a shift and after ours we got some food to take home. We got enough for my folks and sister to eat too. Man am I stuffed! I think we easily served 700 people today!

So here is a card that I put together for as sort of a "job well done" for a priest I know. I like the colors because they are manly. The base of the card is made with Night of Navy card stock from Stampin' Up. The patterned paper is a scrap I had left over from another project and the green that the verse is stamped on is Old Olive card stock also from SU.



Its kind of hard to see but I used this pink Heidi Swap edge distresser (pictured below) to rough up my edges and then I used the Color Box chalk in in Chestnut Roan to add that brown distressed color to the edges. In the photo below you can see that the ink comes in this nifty little ink pad just the right size to hold and distress your paper. The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby, you can also find this size of ribbon at Michael's and Walmart the packaging is a little bit different but it is the same kind.



This is how I store most of my acrylic stamps. I use an empty CD case and they stick right to it. As you can see here I use both sides of the CD case and it still snaps shut. This particular stamp set is one of my favorites because it has a lot of versatile sayings. Half of them are bible verses and they are great to use for sympathy cards. I bought this set from Paper Trey...they have some of the neatest stamps and they are fairly inexpensive for the quantity that you get. The service is excellent and speedy too!



Thanks for peekin' in. I hope to have a few more projects posted this week. I seem to be in a scrapbook funk lately. It seems like I go in spurts where I can really crank out the pages and then there are other times where I just sit there and look at my pictures and my mind goes blank for an idea of what to do with them. I have really been trying to focus on this Lenten season by praying and reading more so maybe that is part of it too.
