Life in the fast lane

No parent should ever have to scrap a layout like this. Mike's son Thomas was driving to his girlfriend's work to walk her to her car after she got off (she worked a late shift). He was about a mile from her job and was hit by a Ford Expedition...and the driver kept going (we later found out that it was a stolen vehicle). You can see by the picture that his car was pretty smashed up. If he would have had a passenger they might not have made it. We got the call around 1 am to go to the hospital. Tons of things run through your mind while you are driving...the ER doesn't tell you anything they just tell you to get there. Mike brought him home to our house to rest...I washed his hair in the kitchen sink and picked the rest of the windshield glass from his hair...poor kid was trying to handle it the best he could. The next day Mike went out to look at the car at the salvage yard; he had a really hard time holding the tears back. The Lord has a plan for this kid...he could have died...but he was spared. The car was smashed in to the drivers seat...he had to crawl out the roof to get out. Thomas is not a prayerful or religious kid by any means, (which makes me sad but he has to find his own way all I can do is pray for him) he was baptised catholic but is not practicing. When Mike cleaned out the car their was a rosary under his seat...the drivers seat. Thomas has no idea where that came from...it wasn't his. Mike and I are convinced that it is a sign from the Lord. We are so very thankful that our boy is alright. This was in 2004, since then he has moved to Seattle and is having the time of his life. We miss him so much!

I remember that day. You are right, no one should have to scrap that type of deal for their kid...but the important part was that he was alive and still bringing you joy...ok and sometimes not so much joy...LOL
